Before Captain America: The First Avenger hit theaters and helped kickstart the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel had much different ideas for Cap. Namely, a comedy. Before Iron Man became a hit, the original plan was for the Captain America movie to be funny, because they didn't know if audiences could take Cap seriously. The man they wanted to direct? Jon Favreau, the man who would eventually direct the first two Iron Man movies. These are just some of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which heads back to WWII with Captain America: The First Avenger!

Just before filming began on Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlett Johansson found out she was pregnant. A movie like Avengers can't just be delayed, so Marvel used a variety of tricks to hide the pregnancy including shooting her from the waist up, using three stunt doubles and CGI-ing out her growing belly. We’re a little over a week away from the biggest movie of the summer, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In less than ten years, Marvel has built a powerful brand in Hollywood thanks to their great casting, sharp writing, and an ability to distill decades of comic books down to fun, accessible adventures. A big part of that translation process is the look of their movies, and particularly the look of their characters. And that’s all about costumes, which is a particular specialty of Marvel’s. Between Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the rest, they’ve got some sharp-dressed heroes.

There’s a lot to like about Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the coolest thing about it is the way it reclaims the comic book part of the phrase “comic-book movie.” Rather than using these characters to do something “edgy” or “adult” or “important,” or sanding down their quirkier edges to appeal to as broad and mainstream an audience as possible, Age of Ultron doubles down on its source material’s geeky origins.

Every movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe contains at least a couple Easter eggs (along with a cameo from famous Marvel writer Stan Lee). Robert Downey Jr., presenting a bionic Iron Man arm to an exceedingly well-dressed 7-year-old fan named Alex, who was born with a partially developed right arm. The arm wasn’t built by Tony Stark, but rather by a college student named Albert Manero who makes low-cost 3D-printed bionic limbs for children. But Downey received the honor and pleasure of presenting him with his new arm, and comparing it to one of his own Iron Man suits.

CBS’ upcoming Supergirl TV series took off with the first look at Glee star Melissa Benoist in costume as Kara Zor-El, and with production formally underway, hers isn’t the only look in the public spotlight. Yesterday saw the release of a new Avengers 2 poster focusing solely on Iron Man. It was a welcome break from the earlier, overcrowded Avengers 2 poster. At the time, Robert Downey, Jr. promised a “big announcement” on March 5, and while we still don't know what that announcement will be, it looks like we'll be getting new Avengers 2 posters each day as a countdown. Today, we have another new poster featuring Hulk doing what Hulk does best — Hulking out.

Just in case yesterday's Avengers 2 poster reveal wasn't enough superhero action for you, we've got even more for you today. While it seemed like every superhero was crammed onto the previous poster, everyone is getting some space now with some character posters. Up first? Iron Man.

A new ‘Avengers 2’ trailer is coming in less than a week (airing on January 12 during the College Football National Championship on ESPN) and when it arrives we’ll start to know a little bit more about the very secretive plot. As a little tease before the new trailer, we have a new photo from the film that gives us some insight as to how the Avengers deal with Ultron’s nefarious plot.
