The Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom Has Suffered Damage
Unusually strong winds gusting as high as 74 mph this afternoon caused the Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom to suffer damage flooding the Niagara River with Ice. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz confirmed the event this evening after portions of the boom were spotted floating in the river.

You know spring is springing (it doesn't actually spring until March 20th) in Buffalo when two things happen.
And both of those things are happening now!
First, the Niagara Power Authority is starting to remove the ice boom from Lake Erie...
Ice Boom Stays
A few sure signs of spring in Western New York include Bison baseball, seeing certain birds migrate their way back and the lifting of the ice boom. The barrier at the eastern end of Lake Erie helps prevent large chunks of ice from flowing down the Niagara River.
