A traffic stop on the I-190 Southbound landed a New York State Trooper in the hospital over the weekend.

Trooper Joseph Menna pulled over a Chevrolet Suburban around 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, and as he approached the vehicle, another driver slammed on their brakes and lost control, causing a chain reaction accident.

One of the vehicles involved slammed into the stopped Suburban, pushing Trooper Menna over the guardrail and down an embankment.

More than two dozen first responders were on the scene within minutes, and a portion of the I-190 was shut down between Long and Whitehaven Roads.

Trooper Joseph Menna was transported to ECMC for minor injuries, and the driver of the Suburban was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

The accident is still under investigation.
