Sheldon Silver to Be Sentenced Today in Corruption Case
Former New York State Assembly Speaker, Sheldon Silver, will learn his fate in court today following a $5-million corruption case from November of 2015.
Judge Valerie Caproni is scheduled to sentence the 72-year-old disbarred lawyer. The government asked that Silver serve more than a decade behind bars, and prosecutors want the judge to fine him $1-million (based on his more than $2-million in assets, and the $70,000 pension that he'll receive for the rest of his life).
In a letter to the judge, Sheldon Silver cited his good deeds, but also acknowledged that he failed the people of New York State and hurt his constituents.
