Traffic Alert: Major Highway In New York To Be Closed

Your Sunday drive could take a little bit longer as a major road will be closed for part of the day today.

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that the Skyway in Buffalo will be closed today between 6 am and Noon for road construction.

The Skyway being closed is part of the ongoing road construction that is taking place along Route 5. The ramp to the I-190 Northbound from the Skyway has been closed all week as crews working on it.

The closing of the ramp to the I-190 lead to some very interesting results earlier this week. The off-ramp splits into two exits. One takes you to Seneca Street while the other takes you to the I-190. While several drivers were confused by the closing which lead to some major chaos.

Check out this video captured by traffic cameras on Tuesday. Drivers were stopping in the middle of the exit ramp, backing up, and cutting off other drivers. It was insane.

The good news is that the New York State DOT has fixed the problem. They have closed the whole off-ramp and have massive signs showing that the ramp is closed off. If you are traveling along Route 5, you will need to take the Delaware Ave exit at the end of the Skyway and make a left to get on the 190 Northbound.

The ramp to the 190 Northbound and Seneca Street from the Skyway is expected to be closed this week as well.
