We are only three days into the month of October but we have already set a new weather record.

As we are enjoying this "second" summer here across the state with temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s, we did set a new weather record that lake lovers will enjoy.

If you plan on hitting the water this week to take advantage of the nice weather, just know that the water temperature in Lake Erie is record-breaking.

On Monday, a new record high temperature for Lake Erie was set for the month of October.

Lake Erie's average temperature by the end of October is around 56 degrees, so we should see a major cool-down over the next four weeks. The last thing we would want is warmer lake water when cold front start moving across the area. That leads to lake effect snow and last year we have seen what happens when cold air moves over warm lake water.
