New Red Light Camera Traffic Ticket Scam Going Around WNY
There's a new email scam going around, that for Western New Yorkers, can feel kind of legit.
Recently, the City of Buffalo activated speed zone cameras near certain school zones,
Some of the cameras were reactivated in September, and now drivers can expect to be issued a $50 ticket for a violation.
So you may receive a notice about an automatic traffic ticket, and not immediately think: scam.
But this one is.
The text of the email reads:
Message intended for: [Your Name]
Mr./Ms. [Your Name], our traffic cameras recorded you running a red light on October 13, 2020. As such, you have been charged with a traffic citation.
You may contest this citation in court, or pay the fine online at [LINK TO MALICIOUS WEBSITE] You may do so no sooner than October 26, 2020, and no later than October 30, 2020.
