A crash that shut down a portion of the 219 on Thursday claimed the life of one of the drivers.

A 67-year-old man from Springville was driving northbound and abruptly stopped his vehicle to allow two foxes to cross the highway. The man's vehicle was rear-ended and crashed into a ditch from the impact.

The Northbound lanes of the 219 were shut down for about three hours, as police and fire crews responded to the accident. The 67-year-old man was airlifted to ECMC by Mercy Flight, and was later pronounced dead. His name has not been released at this time.
