If you were to put up a Mount Rushmore of the most hated sports figures in Buffalo history there are a couple of names that everyone would agree that would make the list.

Tom Brady is one and the other one was supposed to be the saviour for the Buffalo Sabres franchise. Jack Eichel.

While now it seems that Eichel is achieving everything we wanted him to do here in Buffalo, except he is doing it in Las Vegas.

Last night Eichel and his Las Vegas teammates did something that the Buffalo Sabres could not do, win a Stanley Cup.

Jack Eichel was supposed to bring the Stanley Cup to Buffalo when he was the second overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft by the Sabres.

Of course, history didn't play out the way Buffalo Sabres fans wanted it to. Eichel who was injured in 2021 couldn't come to an agreement with the team over a medical procedure that he wanted to do. The team didn't want him to have the surgery and the two sides agreed to part ways.

Eichle was traded to Las Vegas in November of 2021 and while the players the Sabres got in the deal, Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, and a couple of draft picks have given Sabre fans high hopes for a Stanley Cup in the future, Eichel has brought a cup to Las Vegas.

As a Sabres fan, I can't help but think that could have been us. If we had the right coach, if the team let Eichel get the surgery, could we be hosting the cup today instead of Las Vegas?

What a nightmare for Buffalo Sabres fans.
