How do you honor a long career? Is there any special way to celebrate a person who has done so much for a community and has worked so hard? Apparently there is and East Aurora, New York showed us how.

There was a special "pop-up" parade this week to honor a guy who has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the entire Western New York community.

Dozens of firefighters from all eleven fire departments covered by East Aurora Dispatch surprised retiring East Aurora Dispatcher Dave Zaporowski on his final night of work. Dave has worked at East Aurora Police Department for over forty years, and is the current chief of Elma Volunteer Fire Company.

I grew up in East Aurora and my parents owned a scanner and we would here Dispatcher Zaporowski all the time! He has one of the most unique voices and always seemed to be working! I have often wondered what it would be like to be a dispatcher and Zaporowski was the guy I grew up listening to call after call. Congrats and on behalf of everyone in Western New York and East Aurora, thank you for your service!!
