Open Letter To Dog Owners In New York

Now that the weather is warm and people will be out and about for walks through the neighborhood and in parks, dog owners in New York need to listen up.

If you are taking your dog out for a walk and there are other people out on the sidewalk, trail, park, or any other space, please make sure your dog doesn't just run up and jump on them.

I will admit I am more of a cat lover than a dog lover, but I did have a dog growing up and anytime we took our dog Stoney out to the park, we would make sure he would stick close to us, even if he had his lease off.

I am all for dogs running and roaming free, but not everyone loves dogs jumping and licking on them. Also if you yell out, "Oh don't worry he is friendly" I still don't care. I am not friendly and I don't want your dog jumping on me.

In fact, I don't want any dog jumping on me as I walk around the park. Even if you have your dog on a lease, that doesn't mean that you let him go and run up to a stranger.

It is rude!  Unless the person asks to pet your dog or they stoop down and extend a hand, your dog shouldn't go running up to random people.

It becomes more of a problem now that the weather is getting warmer. I say go out and let your dog on the trail or path and enjoy the park but also have enough respect for the other people that are also enjoying the park, trail, or area and keep your dog close to you.
