It’s been fun to watch Jessie Pegula rise in the ranks of tennis players since Kim and Terry Pegula became the owners of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. Now, she’s an olympian.

Now she can add “Olympian” to her list of accomplishments.

Pegula made the announcement on Twitter today while highlighting some of the other athletes that would be there to represent the United States in Tokyo.

She has been working on this for a very long time.  If you’ve thought that she was only getting attention with her career in sports because of who her parents are, you’re wrong.

She is legit.

Jessie made her debut in professional tennis in 2015 at the 2015 US Open and has been rising in the world rankings ever since.

Other members on the US Tennis Olympic team include:

Jennifer Brady (#15)

Coco Gauff (#23)

Alison Riske (#29)

Nicole Melichar (#9 in doubles)

Bethanie Mattek-Sands (#15 in doubles).

Pegula is currently ranked 26th in the World.

Although she’s not necessarily a Western New York native, she will certainly be representing Western New York when she makes that trip to Tokyo.  Already she gave a shout out to the Bills and Sabres after she winning at the Australian Open.

She certainly will not be alone in representing the 716 either.  One of the biggest stories heading into the Olympics has been that of Tonawanda native Anita Alvarez.  You may remember her from what happened during her Olympic trial.  She was going through her routine when she suddenly passed out.  Her coach had to jump in the pool and help her out.  After a bit of medical attention, she seemed to be ok, but definitely created a scare for everyone there.

Best of luck to all the athletes who will be participating and hoping to bring home that gold!
