A Cheektowaga man who acted as a getaway driver is now facing murder and weapons charges. The driver, 25-year-old Raquan R. Reid, was arraigned before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. He was indicted on one count of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree for his participating in a fatal shooting, according to Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn.

Reid allegedly was an accomplice in the homicide of Winston Reese, 33 on October 20, 2020, around 4 in the afternoon. Reese was fatally wounded in a shooting outside of a gas station on Main Street near Glenwood Avenue in Buffalo. Reid is allegedly a member of the Central Park Gang. The two suspects who pulled the triggers have died since the incident. Reid was apprehended by the Buffalo Police SWAT at a home in West Seneca on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. While SWAT officers were arresting him, they allegedly found an illegal, loaded gun.

He is being held without bail and does not have a future court date scheduled as of now. If he is convicted on all the charges against him, Reid is facing 25 years to life behind bars. In 2020, 355 people were shot in Buffalo, an increase of 90 percent from 2019 when 188 people were shot.  Those numbers include victims who were wounded and killed by gun violence.
