Soon two former Buffalo Sabres will be enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Yesterday the National Hockey League announced the inductees into the Hall of Fame for 2023 and there were two very familiar names on that list to Buffalo Sabre fans.

Congratulations to former Buffalo Sabre Pierre Turgeon and Tom Barrasso who are headed into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

WHO IS TOM BARRASSO?

Barrasso was the #5 overall pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1983 NHL draft. He was drafted right out of high school and would play for the Sabres until he was traded in 1988 to Pittsburgh. He would end up playing 12 years with the Penguins before being traded to Ottawa.

WHO WAS TOM BARRASSO TRADED FOR?

Barrasso was traded by the Sabres along with a third-round draft pick in the 1990 draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Doug Bodger and Darrin Shannon.

WHAT WERE TOM BARRASSO'S STATS?

Barrasso would play in 777 NHL regular season games, winning 369 of them. His overall career goals-against average was 3.24, He would play in 119 NHL playoff games winning 61 of them. He also won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

WHO IS PIERRE TURGEON?

Turgeon was the Buffalo Sabres #1 overall NHL draft pick in 1987. He ended up playing for the Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche.

WHEN DID PIERRE TURGEON PLAY FOR THE BUFFALO SABRES?

Turgeon joined the Buffalo Sabres right after he was drafted and put up 42 points during his rookie year. We would play for Buffalo until October 1991 when he was invloived in a blockbuster trade with the New York Islanders.

WHO WAS PIERRE TURGEON TRADED FOR?

The Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders agreed to a blockbuster trade on October 25th 1991. Turgeon along with along with Benoît Hogue, Uwe Krupp and Dave McLlwain was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for Pat LaFontaine, Randy Wood, Randy Hillier and future considerations. Turgeon would play for the Islanders until the start of the 1995-96 season when he was traded to Montreal.

WHAT WERE PIERRE TURGEON'S NHL STATS?

Overall Turgeon played in 1294 NHL regular season games, scoring 515 goals and adding 812 assists for a total of 1327 points. He played in 109 playoff games scoring 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points.
