The Buffalo Niagara International Airport has been nominated by USA Today as one of the best small airports in the U.S.

WKBW-TV reports that USA Today rates the airport, among other things, for its friendliness, ease of use, and flight offerings.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar expansion. Passengers often use this airport as a money-saving alternative to Toronto. Popular food options include local favorites... buffalo wings at Anchor Bar, and fresh coffee at Tim Hortons (a cross-border favorite).

The continued success of the Buffalo Airport has required more room at the entrance and exits, more baggage capacity, as well as additional concessions. Those areas and more are currently being addressed with the biggest expansion in the airport's history.

The heart of the project is flow, makingit easy for people to get around efficiently. To that end, the Airport is making upgrades across the terminal.

Once complete, there will be less congestion at the security entrance and exits.

The new design will sport two egress areas, a new enclosed and expanded federal inspection area for international flights. A refurbished baggage claim area will have not just one additional baggage return belt, but four completely new machines each providing 50-percent more surface area than before.

For passengers waiting for ground transportation, a new indoor facility will keep everyone protected from the elements while waiting for Metro bus or a local shuttle. The upgrade is expected to take about three years.
