WHAT IS A MARGARITA?

A margarita is a cocktail made up of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Some recipes call for a sour mix to be added to the drink.

WHO INVENTED THE MARGARITA?

It is believed that the margarita was first in the early 1930s with a couple of different stories circulating on who really invented the drink. According to Jose Cuervo''s website, the cocktail was invented in 1938 by a bartender in honor of Mexican showgirl Rita de la Rosa

HOW ARE MARGARITAS SERVED?

Margaritas can be served two different ways. They can be served frozen or on the rocks. Also, most margaritas are served in glasses that have salt or sugar on the rim.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY OWN MARGARITAS AT HOME?

We found this recipe from the International Bartender's Association

1 1/4 oz tequila
2/3 oz of Cointreau or Triple Sec
1/2 oz of lemon or lime juice
salt for rimming

Rub the rim of the glass with the lime slice to make the salt stick to it. Shake the other ingredients with ice, then carefully pour them into the glass (taking care not to dislodge any salt). Garnish and serve over ice.
