The Geminid Meteor Shower will take place tonight and with the current weather pattern, most of New York will have clear skies to see all the action.

WHAT IS THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER?

The Geminid Meteor shower is a yearly shower of meteors that happens in November and December. According to Earthsky.org, the asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon is responsible for the Geminid meteor shower.

WHEN DOES THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER HAPPEN?

It happens every year in the latter part of the year. This year the Meteor Shower began on November 29th and will go on until December 24th. December 13th will be the date the meteor shower is at its peak.

WHAT DOES THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER LOOK LIKE?

Because the Geminid Meteor Shower is caused by an asteroid and not a comet, the practicals tend to burn quickly and don't leave a trail. Geminid meteors are usually bright, white, and quickly disappear.

If you can't see tonight's meteor shower you will have one last chance to see another one before the end of the year. The Ursid meteor shower is expected to pass over the Earth on December 21st and 22nd.
