New York State finally passed the budget three weeks after the April 1st deadline and it has one massive omission.


One of the big things not in the budget for next year is an increase in taxes for residents of New York State.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul wanted a budget with no income tax increases for anyone while some lawmakers proposed $2 billion worth of tax hikes on ultra-high-income New Yorkers and large corporations.

The governor won out and the new budget does not include any income tax increases.

Some other major budget items include:

  • Public funding for SUNY and CUNY schools
  • $350 million for a new supplemental tax credit for families eligible for the Empire
  • State Child Tax Credit to provide direct support to working families
  • A first in the Nation Paid Prenatal Leave, providing 20 hours of paid sick time for pregnant employees to use for their prenatal care visits
  • Money to invest in stopping hate crimes across the state
