We are taking another small step to normalcy here in Western New York. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced yesterday that residents will now have the chance to rent shelters at local parks.

According to his Tweet, most shelters will be available to rent excluding larger shelters and buildings.

You can log onto the Erie County Parks and Rec website to reserve your shelter starting on April 12th. The Shelters will be open for use starting on May 15th.

*Shelters rentals are available May 15th - October 15th. Buildings vary by location. Campsites 1-30 are available from May 1st - November 30th. Campsites 31-72 are available May 15th - Columbus Day. All other non-electric campsites are available Memorial Day Weekend - Columbus Day.

When you reserve a shelter you will also have to agree to follow COVID-19 guidelines set up by the State. That includes:

  • Group size not to exceed current NYS guidelines
  • Practice social distancing
  • Wear a mask when 6 feet distance is not possible
  • Wear a mask when in bathroom facilities

The price range for rentals depends on the park, shelter size, and amenities like an enclosed kitchen or grill within the shelter. Most shelters will cost between $75 and $250 per day and are on a first come first serve basis.
