I just don’t get it. I see people out at restaurants (nice, cheap, whatever) and they just can’t put their phones down! I mean, these people are usually with others I’d think they cared about, or at least liked, and they just keep chatting, texting, playing Words With Friends. Well, one L.A. restaurant has had enough. And maybe, so have you.

Eva Restaurant owner Mark Gold says he doesn’t have a problem with the phone conversations, or the flashing of smartphone screens. He wants people to talk to each other, face to face [what a revolutionary concept!]. He’s so in favor of old-fashioned direct talk that he offers anyone who’ll hand over the iPhone before eating a five percent discount. Gold hopes that people will sit with and talk to strangers, although it’s not a mandatory part of the offer. He says about half of his customers agree to give up their phones. Many of them thank him for forcing them to stay away from their cells [personally, I think they could just keep them in their pockets, but…].
