It is the absolute worst thermostat that you can get. I ripped mine right off of the wall this week. We are gearing up for Winter here in Western New York and you really should make sure that your heat is working before you actually REALLY need it.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get the Nest Thermostat. If you don't know what the NEST is, it is a smart thermostat that is connected to your phone and learns your habits so it will turn on and off when you enter or leave your house.

What a nightmare that was for my house. After we installed it the heat would only go on for a certain amount of time. Once that was fixed, the heat would get hotter than it was actually set. It became such a hassle that I ripped it right off of the wall and put the old-school thermostat back on the wall.

Have you had any problems with your NEST thermostat?

If you are a landlord in New York State, according to the New York State website: "Heat must be provided between October 1st and May 31st, i.e. "Heat Season," under the following conditions:

Day

Between the hours of 6:00am and 10:00pm, if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees, the inside temperature is required to be at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Night

Between the hours of 10:00pm and 6:00am, the inside temperature is required to be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
