A 44-year-old immigrant woman climbed the Statue of Liberty on July 4th.

44-year-old immigrant woman named Therese Okoumou scaled The Statue of Liberty in protest and declared she wouldn't come down until all children were released.

According to CNN

"About 16 officers with the New York City Police Department's Emergency Service Unit -- a team trained to perform some of the most dangerous rescues in the city  took part in the rescue/apprehension effort, Officer Brian Glacken said in a news conference Wednesday evening."

At first Therese was being very combative with the officers. These guys are trained to deal with situations like this so as time went on, they built a rapport with her. After three grueling hours, crews finally came up to help her down with a ladder, a harness, and ropes.

How did she get up there in the first place is my question? I am surprised there weren't tougher security measures around the fourth of July. Why would anyone protest this way? There were tons of other protests around the Statue of Liberty that didn't involve raiding it.

Therese faces  trespassing, disorderly conduct and interfering with government functions charges.
