What is that really nice looking boulder at 30 Fordham Drive in Buffalo, NY? On the boulder is a small plaque that reveals the spots importance. The rock lies in the middle of a grassy road median, marking the spot where William McKinley was assassinated.

On Sept. 6, 1901, President William McKinley was visiting the Temple of Music at the Pan-American Exposition. McKinley was shot twice. He was then moved to the Milburn House located at 1168 Delaware Avenue. The home, however, was extremely dark and during surgery on the president doctors were forced to use mirrors in an attempt to reflect light.

Here's where the irony comes in. The president was shot and moved from what was very likely the most well-lit place in the world at that time as the Expo was featuring the new hyrdopower technology of the time.

McKinley died eight days later, and Theodore Roosevelt was sworn in as President in the nearby Wilcox House. The Temple of Music was demolished a couple years later.

The small boulder was placed on the spot in 1921 by the Buffalo Historical Society.
