Today is a big day for Nik Wallenda and his planned high wire walk across the Niagara falls. Crews today plan to install the cable he'll use to make the historic walk between the U.S. and Canada.

A suburban Rochester company has been making plans to put the wire in place since first receiving a phone call about the walk last August.  WKBW.com  reports employees of O'Connell Electric of Henrietta will use a helicopter to pull a rope from the Canadian side of the falls to the U.S..  Then, they'll attach the rope to the nearly 8 ton cable that will be strung across the span for Wallenda's walk.  There will be cranes on each side of the border  keeping the 2-inch wide cable steady.  Two rescue baskets, one at each end, will stand by in the event of a problem.

The entire process will begin this evening after the Maid of the Mist closes for the night.  Wallenda's walk is scheduled for this Friday night (June 15th).  You'll be able to watch it live on Channel 7, WKBW-TV.
