In response to the mass shooting that happened on Saturday, May 14, 2022, officials from the Erie County Department of Mental Health and the coalition of mental health counseling agencies quickly banned together to set up a drop-in mental health counseling center that offered counseling services free of charge to anyone who needs someone to talk to.

That center originally opened on Sunday, May 15, 2022, and is scheduled to remain open every single day until at least 9 pm on Friday, May 27, 2022.

That center, which is working daily to support the people of Buffalo needs your help.

The partners from Spectrum Health and Human Services, Crisis Services, Endeavor Health Services, BestSelf Behavioral Health, Buffalo Urban League’s NY Project Hope Team and Spectrum Health’s NY Project Hope Team, SayYes Buffalo, the WNY Chapter American Red Cross, Feed More WNY, and MVP Buffalo (Most Valuable Parents), are looking for a series of volunteers to help at the Johnnie B. Wiley Resource Center in Buffalo.

Those volunteers are needed to help greet people and sign them in when they arrive at the Mental Health Drop-In Center, and to do some door-to-door outreach in the general community and surrounding neighborhood.

There are timeslots available daily until the Drop-In Center stops operating. If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up here on the Erie County Department of Mental Health website.

If you, or anyone you know, may need someone to talk to about your feelings surrounding the tragedy, this is the perfect place to talk with someone. These free counseling services are highly valuable and will be extremely helpful when trying to heal from the trauma we're all experiencing. You don't need an appointment, you can just stop by.
