As part of our (and so many others) New Years resolutions, Val and I decided we wanted to get into great shape.  Turns out you have to work for it and what better place to start than Orangetheory Fitness.  We ventured in for a workout, and they made us work for it!

Orangetheory Fitness is a 60-minute workout broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training. A person can burn an average of 500+ total calories per 60-minute training session. Led by highly skilled coaches, each Orangetheory Fitness workout incorporates endurance, strength and power elements through a variety of equipment including treadmills, rowing machines, TRX® suspension training and free weights.

The physiology behind the Orangetheory Fitness workout involves heart-rate-monitored training designed to keep heart rates in a target zone that stimulates metabolism and increases energy. The result is the Orange Effect – more energy, visible toning and extra calorie burn for up to 36 hours post workout.

Our trainer for the class was Jacob and he went out of his way to make sure we hit all of the zones.  I realized how out of shape I was once we started, but that didn't stop me from wanting to hit the orange zone!

We started with a half mile run on the treadmill, followed by a 1000 meter row, followed by another run on the treadmill, followed by a 750 meter row.  I am exhausted just typing that! This was the first time I really used a row machine and didn't realize that it essentially uses all of the muscles in your body.  We repeated this one more time before we moved on to the free weight portion of the workout.

We did several exercises for strength and power training and it tested the limits of what I could handle.  Full disclosure, I had to bow out more then 1 time to take a break.  It was an awesome workout and in the end Val and I each burned over 500 calories.  Orangetheory Fitness is the real deal, and if you are looking to get in shape and start a new you, look no further!
