Tyra Banks has made a career out of modeling — and helping other women stay in the running to be America's Next Top Model — so it's safe to say she's worn makeup for the majority of her adult life. But yesterday (June 18), Tyra left her concealer and mascara on the table and shared a #nofilter selfie of the face she was born with.

And guess what? Aside from her goofy facial expression (claaaaassic Tyra), she looks good. That's right, a woman with features that are considered genetically superior looks just fine with a bare human face. Crazy, I know.

Will we ever reach the point where a #nomakeupselfie will just be a regular #hereismyface selfie, instead of a quasi-political act that's lauded for bravery? It feels obvious to say this, but the idea that "makeup/no makeup" equals "pretty/so unpretty" is a completely made-up binary (encouraged by the cosmetics industry in collusion with the women's magazines that they fund with their advertising dollars) and we've apparently internalized it so much that a selfie of a woman without face paint is considered an act of defiance. If a lady enjoys makeup and wants to wear it, that's her beeswax — but ideally, it should also be unremarkable if she doesn't. How exactly did we get here?

ANYWAY, Tyra explains the reason for her Insta post in the caption, emphasizing that it's an un-retouched "taste of the really real me." She says she resisted the urge to cover her under-eye circles: "I was like, "Naw, Ty. Show 'em the REAL you." So...here I am. Raw. And there YOU are...looking at me, studying this picture. Maybe you're thinking, "Whoa, she looks ROUGH." And if you are, great! You deserve to see the REAL me. The REALLY real me. #RawAndReal"

So, there you have it. And ladies, feel free to weigh in: What are your thoughts on Tyra's stance? Do you ever skip the makeup? If not, what do you think would happen if you did?
