When I was a kid, one of my favorite stores to go to was Toys "R" Us. My mom and dad would let me shop for one item there if I went to a doctor appointment.

So, it was sad when Toys "R" Us stores disappeared after their liquidation in 2018. However, there's now hope that Toys R Us will be back soon and perhaps they're back in Western New York?

According to WIVB, WHP Global, a New York-based brand management firm that already owns Anne Klein and Joseph Abboud, will be taking a controlling stake in the parent company (Tru Kids) that owns Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us brands.

WHP’s chairman Yehuda Shmidman, says they have plans to open Toys "R" Us stores before the upcoming holiday season.

“We’re coming off a year where toys are just on fire. … And for Toys R Us, the U.S. is really a blank canvas,” Shmidman said.

Shmidman added that those stores opening soon would be flagships, pop-ups, airport locations or mini stores inside other retailers’ shops.

The fact it's a New York-based company that is taking control of the Toys "R" Us brands makes you wonder if Western New York will be one of the regions that will be getting a Toys "R" Us back.
