Most of us would choose to stay away from a lake that is deemed toxic. Not the case in a report from NBC New York

Dmitry Shakhov, a Russian environmentalist, warned that the water in the lake can cause allergic reactions or even chemical burns if ingested or touched.

So, why are people taking selfies near the lake?  Because the lake is a vivid blue/green.  The color is due to "a chemical reaction between toxic waste elements from a local power station.

Yet, still, folks persist,

Thousands of Novosibirsk residents — ranging from scantily clad women to newlyweds — have been busy instagramming near a bright blue lake nicknamed the "Siberian Maldives."

Crazy, right?
