Throwback Thursday: Songs That Turn 20 This Year

20 years ago was 1997...let that sink in for a minute.  I was a sophomore/junior in college at Fredonia, and life was cruising along.  Somewhere along the line life went into overdrive and now here we are, living in a world where 1997 is 20 years ago.

This year there are a few songs that are turning 20.  In 1997 these songs were newborns and tearing up the charts.  Some have stood the test of time while some others have faded a little.  Reminisce with me for a moment and try and remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard these songs for the first time:

• MMMbop - Hanson
• Hypnotize - The Notorious BIG
• Tubthumper - Chumbawamba
• Song 2 - Blur
• Everybody (Backstreets Back) - Backstreet Boys
• Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
• Torn - Natalie Imbruglia
• My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion
• Barbie Girl - Aqua

Since I was attending Fredonia when these came out, a majority of them I heard for the first time at Sunny's (The Hot Spot).  How was this 20 years ago??  Can someone gas up the Delorian so we can go back and relive the birth of these please!  Also, when we go back can we put all of our money into the internets...they will just be coming around at that point.

Some of these artists turned out to be one hit wonders (Aqua, Chumbawamba, The Verve, Blur), but others became powerhouses in the music industry (Celine Dion, The Notorious BIG, Spice Girls).  Have you seen Hanson lately??  They are all grown up now, it's adorable.

Anyway, enjoy these songs one more time because before you know it they will be 40!
