When this brave 9-year-old named Sydney Smoot of Hernando County school district stood up at her local school board meeting, well, it certainly wasn't what the audience expected. Sydney brought everyone to their feet when she shared how she felt about standardized testing.

She strongly believes it's failing students and teachers. She said in her speech:

One test at the end of the year that the teacher or myself will not even see the grade until after the school year is already over. I do not feel that all this FSA testing is accurate to tell how successful I am.

Regardless of what the school board decides on testing, perhaps Sydney's message will make some sort of impact on assisting schools across the nation to rethink how they measure students' success.
