My grandma is one of the sweetest women on earth.  She'd give the clothes off her back to someone in need.  She's also fallen victim to about 40 different scam artists out there, and has spent and/or lost thousands.

The scum of the earth are preying on us, again.  And I get no greater satisfaction than exposing scumbags.  So here's what happened:

I received a robo-call, pre-recorded voice mail yesterday from the following number:

202-657-6583

The voicemail said the IRS was "filing lawsuit against you", and I was directed to immediately call the number back to get more information on this "case file".

Naturally, I know the IRS is NOT filing a lawsuit against me.

And even if they were, I'm 100% positive I'd receive registered mail, a personally served summons, or other official method of communication.

The problem is, these scum are also calling those who may NOT be as aware of their disgusting antics, whether younger students or the elderly, and anyone in between.

This is what's known as a "government imposter scam", and they run rampant.  They also fall under the "fake debt collector" category, as they would surely say I was behind on taxes.

Take these steps now, and PLEASE share this information. I understand this is a particularly hot new method of roping you in to giving out your information, and potentially losing everything!

  1. Register for the "DO NOT CALL" Registry. Your home phone AND your cell phones, including your kids! (Here's more consumer information)
  2. NEVER give your sensitive information (ie social security, banking numbers, etc.) to anyone who INITIATES the call to YOU.
  3. REPORT any suspicious calls, emails, texts, etc. to the FTC here.  I did just that yesterday.
  4. You can always call 877-FTC-HELP for more information.
PLEASE share this information!  It literally could save someone thousands, if not all their life savings!
A friend of mine's parents were victims of THIS scam, that zeroes in on the elderly.  It's called the "grandparent scam". UGH!  Will people stop at NOTHING??
