Stefon Diggs will once again be asked by the Buffalo Bills to be the number one wide receiver in what should be a high-powered offense in 2022.

Quarterback Josh Allen will have Gabriel Davis back as the number two receiver, while newly signed Jamison Crowder will play the slot, along with Isaiah McKenzie and fifth round draft pick, Khalil Shakir.

The Bills have pretty much everyone they are bringing into training camp, but general manager Brandon Beane made another signing to help thr offense on Thursday.

According to Mike Garafolo of The NFL Network, the Bills are signing Tavon Austin to a contract.

Austin is a former first round pick of the St. Louis Rams, back in 2013. Ironically, Austin was the 8th overall pick, which was a pick held by Buffalo before the traded down to 16 to pick quarterback E.J. Manuel. The Rams used the Bills pick to take Austin.

The 31-year-old wide receiver had a promising start to his career but injuries have severely hindered him since 2017. He’s never really developed into that number one WR weapon, but has had moments in his career.

Austin spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching 24 passes. He’s also had 172 career punt returns.

The punt return factor is important to note here. McKenzie was not overly impressive as the Bills punt returner in 2021, while Shakir does have punt return experience in college, just not the NFL.

Austin isn’t a guarantee to make the roster but his return abilities might be enough for him to play a role on the Bills this season.
