Merritt Winery has been making wine in Forestville, NY for 40 years, and this week they brought some to the Mix96 studio for us to try.  Now this wasn't your ordinary wine tasting. We took Merritt wine and paired it with Girl Scout cookies...and it was great!

The timing of this pairing couldn't have been better since Girl Scout cookies were delivered this week.  We had some Thin Mints, Short Breads, and Peanut Butter Patties.  Bill, from Merritt, brought bottles of Bella Ice Wine, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc.

Since Val Townsend has to make the radio station run, she couldn't partake in the wine so I was drinking for two - this job has some perks!  Don't feel too bad for her, she did get to eat the cookies, the FCC allows that.

The first pairing was with the Bella Ice Wine and the Peanut Butter Patties.  The Bella Ice Wine was chilled perfectly and was delicious on its own (I highly recommend), but it was magic when you pair it with the Peanut Butter Patties.  Now this may have been unfair since both of these are amazing tastes solo, but the combo is the way to go.

Next up was the Thin Mints with the Cabernet Franc.  Coming into the day this was what I was most excited about because I eat Thin Mints by the sleeve.  Easily the best of the Girl Scout cookies, the Thin Mint can make everything great.  Once again, the combination of cookie and Cabernet was a hit!

Last up was the Chardonnay paired with the Short Bread cookies.  I am not normally a big fan of Chardonnay, but this was a smooth wine and the cookie was a nice compliment.  To be fair, I was so blown away by the Bella Ice Wine and PB Patties that I didn't put the time into this one that it deserved.  It was good nevertheless!

In conclusion, the Bella Ice Wine and PB Patties were the best of the bunch for my taste.  You couldn't go wrong with any of the combos but that was the best.  The good news is all you have to do is go to the Wine & Chocolate Affair this Saturday at the Tonawanda Castle and you can try them yourself and decide!
