Governor Kathy Hochul has signed off on extending the state’s eviction moratorium Thursday, now extending the ban until January 15th, 2022, which is still short of the one-year extension some were hoping for.
New York has $2.7 billion, in state and federal funding, to use for its Emergency Rental Assistance Program, known as ERAP, and Governor Kathy Hochul is making sure that money is distributed to those in need.
The clock is ticking on eviction moratoriums. While the national eviction moratorium ends on July 31. New York State's runs a bit longer through the end of August.
State lawmakers have extended protection from evictions for another three months. But that is a double-edged sword, because it puts landlords in a tough spot as well.
