Dyngus Day Buffalo

There's one Dyngus Day tradition in Buffalo, NY that is observed the day after, but be careful if you dare to participate.

Buffalo is the Dyngus Day capital of the world because there is nothing like it anywhere else, and now it has its own song!

The family tradition for this one Western New York family started about 50 years ago in the mid-1970s.

We were celebrating in the Dyngus Day capital of the country -- Buffalo, NY! Here's a snapshot if you will of the fun, music, food and dancing at the 33 Speakeasy on Genesee Street! Dyngus Day is Monday, March 28th, 2016 and Buffalo will get it's fill of pussy willows and polish music. Traditionally the Monday after Easter is a giant Polish Celebration in Buffalo, New York and this Dyngus Day should be as festive as Dyngus Days past.

It's a treasured, time-honored tradition here in Buffalo....but no one had a more comical response to learning about Dyngus Day than Anderson Cooper. Getting caught in a giggle-fest was silly at first, and then it became hopelessly adorable (IMHO)...

Easter Monday is more commonly known as Dyngus Day in English-speaking countries, and celebrated by the Polish community to mark the end of the Lenten Season.

Dyngus Day is April 6, 2015, and no one does Dyngus Day like Buffalo! Dyngus Day Buffalo festivities take place in the Historic Polonia District, Cheektowaga, Depew, South Buffalo and Black Rock. The annual post-Lenten bash attracts tens of thousands of people to Buffalo, NY, to celebrate Polish history and pride.

Buffalo's Dyngus Day festivities is one of the largest celebrations in the nation, featuring Polka bands, a parade, festival hall locations, dance demonstrations and Polish food.

I decided to make a trip to the Broadway Market after work on Good Friday, and I found all kinds of goodies!  What was really cool was that they had everything for Easter, from meats and vegetables to candy and baked goodies!

I've done St. Patrick's Day and I'm familiar with Easter :)  But not being from Buffalo, I've never "celebrated" Dyngus Day.
