There's nothing that conjures up nostalgic memories like old restaurants that are not around anymore. Here in Western New York, there are countless old restaurants that locals remember.

In the City of Buffalo, they're usually old bars and taverns that locals would walk to on a Friday or Saturday night. For the suburbs, the sit-down restaurants are usually what make Buffalonians nostalgic.

I grew up in north Amherst. It was the area they called "looney acres," that was near Wheatfield and by Sweet Home Road. I spent most of my time growing up driving with my dad up and down Maple Road and Niagara Falls Blvd.

There were a ton of old restaurants that used to be on Maple and Niagara Falls Blvd. that are not there anymore (Perkins, Fuddruckers, Country Kitchen, Old Man River, Montana's), but one in particular had other Western New York locations that Buffalo looks back fondly on.

Do you remember the Swiss Chalet location on Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst?

This Swiss Chalet was located next to where Tully's currently is, and in the same parking lot/plaza as Outback Steakhouse.

Swiss Chalet had a downtown Buffalo location until the mid-90s, and the one on Niagara Falls Blvd. opened in 1965 and closed for good in 2010. The building it was in was officially torn down soon after.

Apparently, former Buffalo Mayor Jimmy Griffin once called the Swiss Chalet's "Buffalo's best fried" in an old advertisement.

I went to the Swiss Chalet on Niagara Falls Blvd. multiple times, and I also remember us visiting Blockbuster on the same night; back when the Lonestar Grill was where Tully's currently is now.

It's so eerie how you think of an old restaurant, and all of a sudden, these memories come flooding back; memories you didn't think you had.

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.
