It's finally here!  The final game of the 2021 NFL season.  Super Bowl LVI goes down this Sunday in Los Angeles.  The Rams, who are only the second team in history to play a Super Bowl on their home field (The 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers being the other), take on the underdog upstart Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at 6:30 pm.

And for the first time ever, Western New Yorkers will be able to bet on the big game in the palm of their hands.  Back on January 8th of this year, four operators (Ceasers, Draft Kings, Fan Duel, and Bet Rivers) came online as the first mobile sports betting operators in New York State. They were followed soon after by BETMGM.

This opens up a whole new world to gamblers in The Empire State. Personally, I enjoy putting a little cash on the prop bets.  For those not in the know, the prop bets are the more nontraditional bets that are available.  Meaning that a prop bet, short for proposition bet, is a wager in sports betting not tied to the final score or outcome of a game.

There are all kinds of different prop bets available for this year's game.  According to Bet MGM, the most popular prop this year is Who will score the first touchdown followed by Super Bowl MVP, and Player Touchdown (Betting on any single player to score in the game).

It turns out that you can bet on the color of the Gatorade that will be dumped at the end of the game.  So far Yellow/Green/Lime (+450) is the betting favorite with 33% of the money amongst the 6 choices offered (Orange, Blue, Yellow/Green/Lime, Clear, Red/Pink, and Purple/Indigo/Violet).

The coin toss has also proven to be a popular prop bet as BetMGM has received more bets on the coin toss than other popular prop bets such as Joe Burrow passing yards, Cooper Kupp Receiving Yards, Joe Mixon rushing yards, Odell Beckham Jr. receiving yards. Tails right now is leading the way with 60% of the total bets.

And in case you are wondering who New York is rooting for, or rather betting on, the answer is the Bengals.  New York along with 15 other states where Bet MGM operates has more money being placed on the Bengals to win the big game.
