It looks like ‘Suicide Squad’ is still searching for its Rick Flagg. Following Tom Hardy’s departure from Warner Bros. upcoming DC supervillain project, Jake Gyllenhaal was the top choice to take over. But the actor has basically said “Nah, bro, I’m good” and passed on the film as well. With David Ayer’s film hitting the big screen in 2016, WB still has a little time to cast this central role.

According to Variety, Gyllenhaal has decided not to join the ‘Suicide Squad’ crew following the loss of Tom Hardy in the role of Flagg, the leader of the Squad who works alongside government agent Amanda Waller. Viola Davis is set to play the role of Waller, and it was recently reported that Davis has signed on for multiple DC films, making her the rug that should help tie all these superhero rooms together.

Ayer and WB are still looking for someone to fill Flagg’s shoes, but with the film heading into production in April, there’s plenty of time to find the right fit for the team, which includes: Jared Leto as iconic Batman villain Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Joker’s partner in crime Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

‘Suicide Squad’ is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
