But apparently, some people are claiming that deceased relatives are receiving stimulus checks as well, according to Business Insider.

Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie tweeted that a friend's dad got his $1,200 stimulus check, but that the dad has passed away in 2018.

Other people have stepped forward to say deceased friends or relatives have received stimulus checks from the IRS.

According to Business Insider, the money was likely handed out to people who have since passed, because the checks are based on 2018 and 2019 tax returns. So if they filed taxes since 2018, there's a reasonable chance they got a check, even if they have passed away since then.

Many of those checks would simply be returned but if the deceased person's account is still in probate, the beneficiary could access the money -- or if it's a joint account with a partner, that partner could access the money as well.
