This is the 24th year of the 'Stamp Out Hunger' campaign. On Saturday, the USPS mail carriers will be out collecting non perishable food items for the Food Bank of Western New York. Yes, all the food collected stays in our area!

Last year postal carriers collected over 1.6 million pounds of food. All you have to do is leave food items near your mailbox and they'll collect as they deliver.

The Stamp Out Hunger Facebook page says:

Please do not donate frozen food, homemade food or home-canned items, or food in glass jars. In keeping with good food-handling and food-safety procedures, food that is opened, damaged, out of code or does not have the official ingredients included will be discarded by the food bank in the sorting process.

Lisa Burgio with the USPS reminds us:

Make sure not to leave out expired items.

Remember, our food bank is always looking for donations through the year, so let's step it up a notch this Saturday, May 14th, 2016 and let's STAMP OUT HUNGER.
