St. Patrick’s Day Parade In Buffalo Officially Canceled

It's news that many expected but it's still a sad circumstance.

According to WIVB, the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Buffalo has been officially canceled. The parade usually takes place on Delaware Ave. It's the second year in a row the event has been canceled.

The plan is to come back for the parade next year. They even have a date set: March 20th, 2022 at 2 p.m.

Other cities like Rochester, Albany, and Syracuse have already canceled their St. Patrick's Day parades. Buffalo does it today.

Here's the statement listed on the United Irish American Association website.

“We take very seriously our responsibility to help flatten the coronavirus curve to keep our community safe."

 

“We will once again fill Delaware Avenue with music, floats, dancers and marchers,” when discussing next year's planned parade.

In fact, they already have a Grand Marshal picked out for the 2022 parade: Patrick D. McGuinness.

It was really unfortunate timing for the St. Patrick's Day parade. The pandemic essentially started in full force just a few days before the holiday last year, so it makes sense it would be the first big event (or one of them at least) to be canceled twice because of COVID-19.

Here's to hoping the parade is back as we know it next March. It's such a fun time and Buffalo does it better than anyone.
