As we get ready for more snow across the area today, you might be winching thinking about having to shovel the driveway and sidewalks.

How do you know that you are too old to shovel? Well according to new research, if you are my age, 45, you are too old to shovel. Thank goodness I have a 17-year-old son to do most of the work.

A study was conducted across the country from 1990 until 2006 and scientists found that on average 11,500 people have been treated for snow shoveled-related injuries every year at area emergency departments.

About 2/3 of the people injured while shoving were males, and males over the age of 55 made up 21% of the people injured. Males aged 18-54 made up the biggest percent of injuries with 62.9% of people injured falling into this group.

95% of the injuries also happened when the person was shoveling at home. Most of the injuries were sustained to the arms or legs. Chest pain, cardiac arrest, and other heart-related symptoms accounted for 6.4% of the injuries during the study.

In conclusion, if you are over the age of 45, you should get your kids or hire the neighborhood kids to shovel for you this winter. Heck...hire a plow service and sit back and enjoy some coffee or hot chocolate while you watch the plow come through and clear your driveway while you are nice and warm inside.

For those that like to shovel, feel free to send me an email and I would be more than happy to have you stop by my place to shovel my driveway and sidewalks.
