Smoke From Wildfires May Be Carried Over to WNY

The devastating California wildfires have been one of the top stories in the country the last couple weeks.

Since the start of 2020, the wildfires have burned over 3.2 million acres of land, which is about the size of Connecticut.

While Western New York will not see any negative impacts of the wildfires out west, you might notice something different about the sky this week.

According to WGRZ, the sky might not be as clear blue as normally when there are sunny skies.

That's because atmospheric models have shown that the jet stream pattern may carry some of the smoke from the wildfires over Western New York this week.

It will make the sky look "hazy" but the air quality will not be affected because the smoke will stay thousands of feet in the air.

What the smoke may do, however, is create extremely colorful sunsets here in Western New York.

It's heartbreaking watching the news regarding the wildfires. It seems crazy that the smoke can be carried across the entire country.

If the sky looks different Tuesday or Wednesday, this will be why.
