Should Drivers be Required to Know First Aid? [POLL]

In Germany, all vehicles are required to carry a piece of equipment not found in most American cars - a first aid kit.

While some other countries recommend their drivers learn how to provide emergency first aid, Germany is, as far as I can discover, the only nation that mandates lessons in emergency medical help before issuing a license. It's one of those ideas that just seems obvious, but I've never heard of anyone suggesting a similar rule be made in New York (or, for that matter, any other state).

I don't have statistics from Germany, but logic says that any first aid that gets to an injured person quickly should improve the chance of survival. Yes, there would have to be a change in laws that currently allow "Good Samaritans" to be sued if their actions result in death of the accident victim (and there have been a few such cases). It's not a perfect improvement on the present situation. But it's a start.
