It's been a year without live theatre, and as the performing arts community ramps up to reopen, one Buffalo cultural institution is holding a casting call for young actors in Western New York.

WKBW reports that actors between the ages of 10 and 14 are needed to take part in an educational film being shot in the city next month.

Filming for the project will happen on April 17 and 18. Interested actors need to audition before the March 26 deadline.

More information will be posted on Shea's education resources page of their website.

Fun facts about Shea's:

  • It was originally a silent movie theatre when it opened in 1926
  • It took one year to build
  • It has one of the few remaining theater organs in the US that is still in operation (in the theater it was designed for).
  • Broadway shows weren't performed there until the 1970s
  • Shea's "Mighty Wurlitzer" was a custom design built by the Wurlitzer Company in North Tonawanda. It's only one of five of its kind in existence.
