The popular singer, bassist and keyboard player from The Monkees, Peter Tork died Thursday at the age of 77, the second of the group to pass.  Davy Jones died of a heart attack in 2012.

Family sources said Peter died from complications from adenoid cystic carcinoma . . . a rare, slow-growing form of head and neck cancer.

The Monkees was a TV show about a band, inspired by The Beatles, and their movie A Hard Days Night.  What made The Monkees famous was that they were initially actors pretending to be a band, that in the end became a real-band selling more than 75 million records worldwide.

Among other things, Peter is known for contributing the piano introduction to "Daydream Believer" and the banjo part on "You Told Me".  Peter also sang on "A Better World", which was a bonus track from their 2016 album "Good Times".

We fondly remember Peter in this YouTube clip from the show:
