The Buffalo Sabres have been brought back down to earth. After having a 5-1-1 start to the 2021-2022 season, they have dropped four straight, with one of those coming in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for fans. The prospect pool is now loaded with the likes of Owen Power, Erik Portillo, Ryan Johnson, J-J Peterka, Jack Quinn, etc.

They also finally traded disgruntled former captain, Jack Eichel.

Eichel was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, along with a 2023 third round draft pick, last Thursday for forward prospect Peyton Krebs, forward Alex Tuch, a 2022 top-10 protected first round draft pick, and a 2023 second round draft pick.

Tuch is a 25-year-old forward who has scored 20 goals in the NHL with Vegas and a former first round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2014.

Tuch grew up a Sabres fan. He's from the Syracuse area and his family actually lived next door to longtime Sabre, Tim Connolly.

Tuch talked about how much he loved the Sabres during his introductory press conference. He talked about watching Drury, Briere, Vanek, Campbell, Kaleta, etc. He also talked about watching games with his dad and one of the photos the Sabres tweeted out.

The photo features Tuch in a red third jersey in the early-to-mid 2000s.

Tuch says he would love if the Sabres brought back those jerseys. Check out the video below (skip to the 33-second mark).

I started watching the Sabres around 98-99, when the team wore the black and red uniforms. I know many fans hold the royal blue and gold as the number one jersey (I probably do as well), but those black and red jerseys are special for me.

It's the era I grew up in. Nothing I did, just the fact I was born when I was. The Sabres, however, were also very successful in those jerseys. They made the playoffs in six of nine seasons wearing them, with three Eastern Conference Final and one Stanley Cup Final appearances.

I think it would be awesome to bring them back for a special night, or, have them as an alternate, wearing them a handful of times during the season.
