After Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and Bruce Smith, there is nobody who has a bigger place in Western New York's heart than Rick Jeannere.

Jeanneret retired at the end of the 2021-2022 regular season after 51 years as the play-by-play man for the Buffalo Sabres.

Jeanneret started out on the radio only and transitioned to both radio and television for regular season and playoff games, before he gradually reduced the number of games he called over the last several years and finally called it a career in 2022.

While it's sad that Rick is no longer going to call games for the Sabres, he is not going anywhere when it comes to Buffalo and the organization.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Sabres announced that Rick Jeanneret will have a new role within the organization.

Jeanneret will be in the newly formed Broadcaster Emeritus role.

That means Rick will make special appearances in Sabres programming, which includes the Sabres pregame shows. He's also going to play a big role in the team's digital and social media platforms!

Jeanneret is not only one of the greatest play-by-play announcers in NHL history, he's one of the best to do so in any of the four major sports. His style was so beloved because of the passion he put into his memorable calls and his quirky and unmatched uniqueness for calling games that nobody else had in professional or collegiate sports.

Jeanneret was a part of multiple generations for Sabres fans and it's tremendous he will be sticking around the organization.
