Snow Record Will Be Shattered In Western New York

***UPDATE - A new record has been set at 15 inches of snow at the Buffalo Airport**

We will continue to update the totals as the snow continues to fall.

Near-record Snow has already fallen across Western New York as a narrow band of Lake Effect snow-covered Downtown Buffalo.

The first major snowstorm of 2022 will go into the record books for at least the City of Buffalo and parts of Western New York. Outside the metro in the traditional "Snow-Belt" in places like Hamburg, Lake View, Orchard Park, and West Seneca not as much snow has come down.

WGRZ's meteorologist Patrick Hammer tweeted out that as of 10:30 this morning the snow totals in The City of Buffalo were around 10 inches and the Buffalo Airport was close to breaking the old record as more snow is expected.

Again if you have to be out and about across Western New York today use extreme caution. Officials did shut down the Skyway this morning because of visibility issues with the blowing snow and there were several major accidents on the 90 and 33 this morning.

Also, make sure to give the snowplows around town plenty of room as they work through the day to clear the roads and lay down salt.

The snow is expected to stay in Western New York until Friday morning.
